Prof. Tammie Willis – (Adjunct Professor & Associate Director of Residence life Kenai Peninsula College, Soldotna, Alaska)

Public Speaking, Debate, & Writing Instructor

Tammie Willis graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Master’s in Education and a Master’s in Music Composition.  She completed her undergraduate degree in music composition and creative writing at the University of Mary Washington.  After completing her education, she enjoyed a 20-year career in higher education where she worked in student affairs while also teaching and tutoring. She worked for many universities as an adjunct professor like Kenai Peninsula College, Soldotna, Alaska, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond Virginia, Northeastern State University, and Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

As an adjunct Professor, she taught leadership development, writing,  literature, and music theory courses as well as music history/appreciation and composition lessons.   She also taught writing, literature, and a variety of music topics in addition to leading creative writing and literature workshops.   Now that she has retired from the administrative aspects of her career, she enjoys being able to focus on the teaching and learning aspects of education. She has a strong passion for the creative and communicative arts and enjoys teaching music, public speaking, debate, and writing/creative writing.

She specializes in students who are low in confidence or those who are shy. She is knowledgeable about all aspects of communication, especially public speaking, debate, and creative writing.  She has ultimately decided to pass on her knowledge and teach these communication skills, which she finds most rewarding. She is passionate about getting students excited about public speaking, debate, and creative writing, which she feels will not only benefit their futures as adults but also their current lives.

She is an expert in helping students prepare and deliver their message with clarity, confidence, and authenticity — whether they are talking to the media, giving a speech, interviewing for a job, or taking part in a meeting.
