Debate and the Sense of Agency

Sense of Agency is your sense of control, or your capacity to affect change in your life. A healthy sense of agency builds resilience and sets you up for success in life.  It helps build your faith in your ability to take on any challenges that life may offer. As the holidays approach, we are all thinking of the best gifts to give to those whom we care about. What would it feel like to be able give someone a strong sense of agency? Don’t we all want  to give our children and loved ones the strength to take on any challenge in life?

Now you can. Enroll them in a debate course. Debate was one of the first places where I could tangibly experience my sense of agency. In every debate course that I have taught, my students walk away with this sense of agency. It is not usually advertised as a benefit of taking debate. But it is undeniably a side effect of debate.

Debate is the perfect entry point to being engaged with the world at large. It offers students the venue to think deeply and critically about the world around them. It helps them to see that they are active participants in the world around them. Debate teaches them how to positively impact and influence the world we live in.

So this holiday season, give your child the gift of debate. Enroll in a debate course at Little Loudspeakers Academy.
