Prof. Dr. Cary Voss

Prof. Dr. Cary Voss received his Ph.D. in Communication Studies and Argumentation/Debate from the University of Kansas in 2002. He was a former professor of communications (Speech and debate) at Victoria College.  He has taught public speaking and debate at Baylor University, University of Kansas, Liberty University, Angelo State University, the University of Houston at Victoria, and Victoria College, from 1987 to 2020. He also has experience coaching high school students during the Summer at Baylor University, the University of Kansas, and Angelo State University.

He is now teaching public speaking, interpersonal, small group and argumentation, and debate both in enrichment and at a college level. He has done mock trials during college and has taught Argumentation and Debate. His intent is to help students become confident in public speaking, debate, and understanding the process and concepts to help empower students with community building and to help provide meaningful dialogue. He has over 35 years of speech, argumentation, improv, impromptu, creative interpretation, and public speaking experience.

He is an expert in helping students prepare and deliver their messages with clarity, confidence, and authenticity — whether they are talking to the media, giving a speech, debate, or competitions. In these competitive times, effective communication can be the keystone to success.

Accomplishments:

As a debater at Baylor, Prof. Cary Voss has won many national debate tournaments.

Accomplishments as a Head Coach (Debate and Public Speaking):

As a debate coach, his teams won the National Debate Tournament (NDT) in 1987 and 1989 and took second place in 1998. He also coached the University of Kansas team which took 3rd place at the NDT in 1994. His teams from Baylor, KU, Liberty, and Angelo State won too many tournaments to list.
